The Art and the Tradition of making barrels

Our firm of coopers specialises in the manufacture of Burgundy and Bordeaux barrels.

The choice of wood is a delicate operation in which the cooper's experience is crucial in determining the different grains corresponding to your requirements.

Carefully selected in the largest French forests.

The wood is split along the grain to obtain rough staves.

The staves are stacked with care to the air-dried for a minimum 24 months, in order to purge them of the sap.
During his work, the cooper does a choice of the staves for the assembly of the barrel.

The assembled barrel is placed over an intense oak fire in order to bent it. A long and slowly heating (toasting) will give an happy marriage between the barrel and the wine.
The hooping. The last stage is the placement of the hoops which finishes the barrel.
